U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry held two meetings in a period of 12 hours with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the peace talks with Palestine that had been halted. Kerry interrupted his travel itinerary with the trip, but the meetings have not yet prompted any immediate changes.

Kerry may return to the area once more to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, reports SRN News.

Over the weekend, Israel did not release several dozen Palestinian prisoners as planned which put the peace talks with Palestine on the edge of collapse.

The talks are an effort to end the the conflict that has developed between the nations for decades. Kerry’s original intention was to assist Israel and Palestine in reaching a peace agreement by April 29; now the Secretary of State aims to keep both nations in conversation after that date.

A major issue that is under discussion is the release of Jonathan Pollard, the American convicted of passing information to Israel in 1987. Pollard is currently in prison serving a life sentence.

Sources say that Israel is proposing Pollard’s release prior to the Jewish holiday of Passover. The nations have not yet come to an agreement regarding his release.
