Naghmeh Abedini, the wife of the imprisoned pastor Saeed Abedini has remained strong in her faith, despite setbacks in the case.

Iranian-born U.S. citizen Saeed Abedini was first arrested for “threatening the national security” in July 2012 reports Christian Today. Saeed was in Iran to work on an orphanage project at the time.

Since then, Saeed was sentenced with eight years of jail time and just recently lost his court appeal. While in prison, Saeed has been brutally beaten and gone for long periods of time without needed medical attention.

Throughout her husband’s imprisonment, Naghmeh Abedini has actively working for Saeed’s release. Naghmeh has turned to the U.S. government for support, appealing to the U.S. Committee on Foreign Affairs to intervene with Iran’s decision.

President Barack Obama said that he was praying for Saeed’s release at the National Prayer Breakfast. "And as we continue to work for his freedom today, again, we call on the Iranian government to release Pastor Abedini so he can return to the loving arms of his wife and children in Idaho," said the President.

Naghmeh has kept her faith in God central to her campaign for Saeed’s release; she said that she feels God chose her family to act as an example for others in times of trial.

"God is holding me up. I can see from Saeed's letters that God is holding him up too," Naghmeh said.
