The latest attack orchestrated by Boko Haram militants targeted Nigerian World Cup fans on June 25. Twenty-one people were killed in an explosion in the Emab Plaza shopping mall, where a large crowd had gathered to watch Nigeria play Argentina in the World Cup.

An additional 17 people were injured in the attack reports Christian Today. One suspected attacker was shot and killed by authorities; another was detained.

A government spokesperson told Nigerian citizens to “go about their normal business” after the bombing. “Every step is being taken by the government to check the activities of insurgents in the country,” he said.

A similar bombing occurred on June 17, killing 21 people at a public World Cup viewing in Yobe. The government has now ordered public World Cup screenings to be cancelled in Northeast Nigeria to prevent more attacks.
